In Recognition of Bishop Clayton McCoy
A foreign trailblazer who devoted much of his spiritual life to fighting for the less fortunate
Dr. Samuel Brown met Bishop Clayton McCoy at the Church of the Living God many years ago.
Bishop McCoy's endeavors to assist the poor sparked passion in Dr. Brown to help the less fortunate.
After Bishop McCoy's passing, Dr. Brown knew it was his turn to pick up the baton and continue running with what he had started.
In 2010, Dr. Brown set out to assist the less fortunate and began developing Haiti Life Changers, the present program.
He and his team found that children were homeless and searching for food in trash dumps. Many were sick with little medical help, and yet, they believed in God.
That was an omen for change in their lives!
Since then, Haiti Life Changers has been providing support through various donations, including, food, clothing, shoes, school supplies and more.
Bishop Clayton McCoy
Bishop Clayton McCoy was a native of Phoenix, Arizona and moved to California in 1940. Bishop Clayton’s parents, Joe McCoy Sr. and Missy Luddie McCoy, were long-time members of the Church of the Living God and were instrumental in organizing the church in Phoenix. Bishop Clayton accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and was baptized in 1942. He went on to teach Sunday school before answering the call to ministry in 1948. In 1950, Bishop McCoy married the former Charlene Madison. Together, they had 5 children.
Bishop McCoy was ordained in 1952 at the district convention in Phoenix, Arizona by Chief O. V. Hall and Bishop A. M. Harold. He had a desire to go Africa as a missionary for the church of the Living God in 1957. After expressing his desire to the Executive Board, he was granted approval to go. Bishop McCoy made his first trip to Africa in September 1957. He stayed for one month, making many connections in Liberia and Ghana. His second trip was sponsored by the Brotherhood and various member churches.
It was his desire to take his family and become a full-time missionary to Africa, as a representative of the Church of the Living God (CWFF). Bishop McCoy passed away without totally realizing his vision.
Dr. Samuel Brown saw his vision, and since then, we have been feeding, clothing, and providing other resources, such as assisting with building houses and churches, for the people, including orphans, and homeless children in Haiti.
We invite you to share in our vision to make a difference in the lives of God people.
